Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including divine entities, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of heroes who will branch out from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might appear mismatched, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading the secret base, assaulting the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the region and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party enter locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This results in them few options but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers parties.

Fans can look forward to learning which players will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
